We have all heard the English expression, "raining cats and dogs". In Florida, a new expression may be needed: “It’s raining iguanas”! Many Florida residents have been surprised this week to see green lizards fall out of the sky. Seemingly lifeless iguanas have been found on pavements, gardens, car parks, even next to swimming pools. The reason is the recent cold weather. Some parts of Florida have had snow for the first time in 29 years. Iguanas are not used to these low temperatures and become stunned, which causes them to fall out of trees where they normally live. And while they make look like they are dead, they are in fact just in shock. When the temperature rises, the iguanas will regain consciousness – and the people of Florida will be able to walk around in safety once again.
