Will Spider-Man finally win an Oscar?

The 2019 Oscar nominations were announced yesterday. These tell us which films could win at the Academy Awards (also called "The Oscars") in Los Angeles on 25 February. One film to be nominated in the Best Animated Feature category is "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". It is the first time a Spider-Man film has been given this honour - even though there have been seven Spider-Man films since 2002! Spider-Man is not the only superhero film to be up for a prize: "Black Panther" could win Best Picture award, the most prestigious award of the evening. Superhero films are hugely popular with the public and make a lot of money for film studios. However, they are usually ignored when it comes to awards time,  even "arty" films like the Batman series failed to be nominated. "Black Panther" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" are breaking new ground. Now that really is a super power!

Oh yes, and celebrities: lots of photos of self-obsessed celebrities. So it was a surprise this week when the most-liked photo of all time on Instagram was not of a model, actor or TV personality. Instead, it was of an egg. That's right: an ordinary egg. On 4 January, the account @world_record_egg posted a photograph of a brown egg saying they wanted it to break the record of the most likes on Instagram. The record holder at the beginning of January was Kylie Jenner with 18 million likes for the first photo of her baby.  People on Instagram responded by liking the egg post. A lot. 18 million people had liked it by 13 January, breaking Kylie's record. As of today (17 January) the egg has 47 million likes! Well done, egg!?  What do you think? Did you like the photo on Instagram? Do you feel sorry for Kylie? Tell us in the comments. And have an egg-cellent day!

Instagram is usually full of selfies, beaches, cats and pictures of what-people-ate-for-lunch. There's a new trend in Great Britain in 2019: lots of people have become vegan for January. A vegan is a person who does not eat meat (like beef, chicken and fish), dairy (like milk, cheese and butter) or eggs.  This movement is called "Veganuary" (vegan + January). Being vegan is said to be healthy and good for the planet - as well as being kind to animals! So why give up these foods for just one month? Veganuary.com explains that many people would like to be vegan but they think it would be too difficult. They say that, by trying it for one month, they will see it is easy and delicious to eat only vegetables, fruit, nuts and grains. What do you think? Could you survive without meat and cheese for a month? The fifth of November is an exciting date for British children. It's Bonfire Night! People across the country will go to their local parks to see bonfires (big fires) burn, eat toffee apples and watch fireworks displays. But why do we celebrate Bonfire Night in Great Britain? This festival has been celebrated for hundreds of years and is a way of remembering an event that happened in 1605. A group of men led by Guy Fawkes put gunpowder (an explosive) under the British Parliament - they wanted to blow up Parliament and kill King James I! Luckily, their plan was uncovered before anyone was killed.  The plotters and their leader, Guy, were not so fortunate: they were executed for their crime. And now, over 400 years later, we remember by burning a dummy of Guy Fawkes on top of the bonfire. Boston street decorated for Halloween with skeletonsHalloween is a very popular celebration in the United States. Children like dressing up as witches, ghosts or zombies to go trick-or-treating in their neighbourhood for sweets. It is also common to decorate your house with carved pumpkins, spider's webs,  witches hats - anything to make it look scary! One street in Boston, Massachusetts has really got into the spirit this year. All the houses have skeleton decorations in their gardens - but not ordinary skeletons. These boney decorations are wearing clothes and are doing everyday activities like walking dogs, doing yoga and playing on a swing. There are even doctor skeletons! This looks sure to be the spookiest street in the US this Halloween. Are you going to celebrate Halloween this year? What are you going to dress up as? (Photo credit: K. The next day saw a draw between Spain and Portugal in an exciting match in which Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick (three goals). France won their first match 2-1 against Australia with a winning goal in the 80th minute. There was a surprise defeat for current World Cup champions Germany on Sunday. They lost 0-1 against Mexico. Will they win against Sweden on Saturday? Group G teams play today with matches for Belgium and England, followed by the final group, including Poland, on Tuesday. Who do you predict will win the 2018 World Cup? K-Pop band BTS have gone to the top of the US Billboard 200 charts with their album “Love Yourself: Tear”. They are the first Korean pop band to reach this position and this is the first non-English language album to make no. 1 in the United States since 2006. The album sold 135,000 last week alone. BTS (also known as “Bangtan Boys”) have seven members and they are famous for their good looks and incredible dance routines. They are already big in South Korea but their popularity is increasing throughout the West. Tickets for their world tour later this year are already sold out.   (Photo: 뉴스인스타 (NewsInStar). After the ceremony, Harry and Meghan rode in a horse-drawn carriage around Windsor, where thousands of people had come to wish the couple well. The celebrations continued in the evening with a private party for 200 friends where Elton John sang and Idris Elba DJed. The night ended with a fireworks display. Don Gorske, age 64 from Wisconsin in the United States, loves McDonald's burgers so much that he eats two every day. For Don, they are his "perfect food". He started eating them in 1972 when he got his driving licence and could drive to his local McDonald's restaurant. Since then he has eaten them every day except when his mother died. Don even proposed to his wife in the car park of a McDonald's restaurant! Now Don holds the Guinness World Record for eating the most burgers.   Do you think Don is right to eat fast food every day? Or should we try to eat a healthier diet?

In fact, the average daily consumption per person in Dubai is around 500 liters. In the United States, it is 295 liters. Japan completes the podium with an average consumption of 278 liters.

Kangaroos in Morisset, New South Wales have started attacking visitors to get to their food, leaving some people with serious injuries. The problem is not with the kangaroos, but with tourists who want to take "kangaroo selfies" to post on social media. Tourists get close to the wild animals by giving them food and carrots are their favourite.  Now kangaroos get angry when they are not fed and will kick or scratch people to get the food. Local MP, Greg Piper, thinks that tourists need to be educated. "Kangaroos are cute but they are also capable of inflicting injury."
